Pink Floyd's Best Eleven

For almost a month, I've spent much time and passion dedicating my ears to this new noises in my playlist, Pink Floyd. During that time, my first thought was "hey, is this really a sound from the 70s?" cause it give me a huge slap on my face. They are really ahead of their time. This fact is reasonable, because apparently Pink Floyd worked in the Abbey Studio, a studio that produced The Beatles's sound. Plus, their producer, Norman Smith was one of the engineer under George Martin (Beatles Producer). See the obvious relationship? So here you go, the best eleven by Pink Floyd (not in these particular order).

1. ECHOES, Meddle, 1971

Extended to 23:31 minutes long, by far it is one of the longest song I've ever listening to (beating the other extended songs in my playlist like Iron Maiden's Rime of The Ancient Mariner, Akta Angkasa's Kognitif, Mono's Yearning, to name a few). My favourite is the heart-punching part; ranged from 7:01 until it's slowly fades at 11:16 minutes.

2. TIME, The Dark Side of The Moon, 1973
"Dumdum, Dum, Taktaktak~ticking away, the moments that make up a dull day!" There you go, after the vocal part kicks in, everything else is excitement.

3. SHINE ON YOU CRAZY DIAMOND, Wish You Were Here, 1975
After Echoes, I first thought there are no any other like it, but I was wrong. Shine On You Crazy Diamond beats the record by extending to 26:11 minutes  long! Another masterpiece.

4. WISH YOU WERE HEREWish You Were Here, 1975

An old song that reminds me of friend, its have the same message like High Hopes. Mild but strong, feed this to your ears, it will easily mix with your head and heart. My favourite phrase in the song; "did you exchange a walk on part in the war for a lead role in a cage?

5. PIGS (THREE DIFFERENT ONES), Animals, 1977

In Animals, Pink Floyd give the society a metaphor in form of animals. Pig is the most filthy one, and in this song pigs portrays the one who has the power to control, like authority, or simply, politicians. This song make jokes on 'the pigs' manners, by mimicking the pig's sound and a repetitive laughing on the lyrics.

6. DOGS, Animals, 1977

Dogs potrays a society who lose the ability to bite the hand that feeds them. They lick it instead. This foolishness inspire the writing of this song. Unlike Pigs (Three Different Ones) however, Dogs composition create a sad feeling of looking to 'the dogs' manners and think, "why don't you get it yet, asshole?"

7. THE TRIAL, The Wall, 1979
My room mate said this song sounds spooky (it is, indeed) and he hates it so much whenever I play it loud at night. The Trial bring elements from opera performance into action, thus creating different vibes in the atmosphere. Its lyrics are written and sing like a monologue, outspoken and resolving on one's thought.

8. HEY YOUThe Wall, 1979

This song don't sing, it talk to you in persona of self-isolation, where logic battles with fantasy in a half-concious stated mind. It taunts on your believe and faith, until finally you will get mad and makes some moves.

9. COMFORTABLY NUMB, The Wall, 1979

I imagine myself as an individual who's trapped in a trance-like state, maybe due to drug, alcohol, weed or some kind, and a nice person approached and offered me something, but what I heard were only echoes of his words. A psychedelic experience.

10. ANOTHER BRICK IN THE WALL, The Wall, 1979

Another Brick in the Wall is my first Pink Floyd's song. I've been listening to it years ago. It's heavy, catchy and obviously, rebellious. Similar to The Trial, this song is one of the important song in this concept album by taking on the shape of opera music.

11. HIGH HOPES, The Division Bell, 1994
"The grass was greener" concludes everything that are told in the song. It give us the perception of looking to sweetness of youth through the eyes of old man; sitting alone in a lazy chair, recalling the memories of old friend that might be death/ faraway. Tears will fall.
